Going into the final round of matches activitymix Granite Guerillas needed a win over Genesis to  seal a league championship. As it turned out there was a slightly anti-climactic end to a long campaign as with Genesis only being able to field 4 players the game was conceded and a friendly played instead. However a win is a win and this means the team remained unbeaten through 10 league games, bringing to an end a 7 year Surf Rescue / Meerkats title run. (more…)

On the eve of the first touch world cup to take place in Europe the talk has mainly been of the weather and last minute changes to the draw. (more…)

Aberdeen Power Rankings – Week 5

Posted: June 8, 2011 by guerillastrc in power-rankings

At the half-way point in the summer leagues a catch up on the progress of teams. With some intra-league fixtures in the cup pools there’s a fair bit of movement mid table. Sparrows, Subsea Sharks and activitymix Galactic Guerillas are on a charge up the rankings. (more…)

Guerillas camping it up at Stirling STS

Our report on the Guerillas trip to Stirling for the first of the 2011 STS events comes courtesy of Duncan Smart…

I’d like to start by staying a massive congratulations to everyone who came down to Stirling at the weekend, and led activitymix Guerillas to one of their best ever ‘away’ Scottish Touch Series results. A big pat on the back also to Stuart and Nick who played for Hoodlums and helped them win some silverware. Of course it’s always good to see any Aberdeen teams performing well but the fact they beat Leopards in the final didn’t do our ATS campaign any harm!

Anyway, to the action…
We started off in a group with Flossie Possie (aka Stirling B), Hammertime (from Glasgow) and Superhands (Edinburgh), who we seem to be drawn with in every tournament. Historically we have gotten off to a pretty slow start in some of the one day tournaments, but thankfully not this time. We hit the ground running, and rattled up a convincing 7-1 victory, with scores from Scuba (3), Ross (2), Mon and Dave.

Busy week for Guerillas

Wednesday 1st June sees the start of the mens(/womens) league in Aberdeen and will be a busy week of games for the Guerillas. With our mens team joining the three mixed teams in action this means as a club we’ll be playing 8 games of touch this Wednesday night and covering 5 referee allocations. In total 40 players are expected to pull on a Guerillas shirt this evening, which will be a new record for the club.

For the mixed teams this week’s games are all at the cup pool stages. Teams are organised into 4 pools of 6 and placings in each pool will decide which of the knock-out events each team ends up in. So a chance to play games against some teams that we wouldn’t normally come up against. Our mens team face one of the the womens ‘all star’ teams and also perennial rivals for the title Aberdeenshire RFC Blokes. Here’s hoping the campaign for a ninth successive title gets off to a good start.

After the league and cup games are completed thoughts will turn to the weekend when a squad of 14 will head to Stirling for the 1st of the 4 Scottish Touch Series (STS) events. Guerillas finished 4th in this series last year, one place higher than in 2009. We know it will need a series of exceptional performances to stay top 5 yet again, as the standard of these events goes up each year. Some of our first choice players will be unavailable due to the Scotland Womens Open team taking part in a tournament in London at the same time as part of their Touch World Cup preparations. However with strength in depth we are confident others can step up. Stirling is also points scoring event 3 of 7 in the Aberdeen Touch Series (ATS) with Leopards, Hoodlums and Tigers all travelling from Aberdeen and looking to pick up valuable ATS points.
